ReplyDeleteThe American Red Cross relies on facebook because then it could be easier to locate people and guide them to safety or make sure they are not hurt. Since news circulates quickly, the messages they send out reach people faster and efficiently. This also provides social relief because it assures people that others are safe and those who aren't will be soon. Without social media, loved ones will be consumed by despair, concern, and worry. But with social media, they can quickly know if their loved ones are okay or not. However, there arises the problem of fake news and yellow journalism. These types of media lie for attention, which can cause panic to unsuspecting readers.

ReplyDeleteAmerica Red Cross relies on facebook to offer people help for missing people and finding shelter incase of an extreme emergency or during natural disasters.
Social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram use hashtags to connect post, when people use a hashtag for an area in need of help, ex. "#PrayForOklahoma", people know there is something wrong and the bigger people will take action.
As a counterclaim, some people may not want to rely on social media for its mass amount of false news (fake news). People tend to photoshop and edit situations to make it seem like something its not, this can make social media sometimes an unreliable source of news until it is confirmed by bigger companies.

Social relief is provided through Facebook and twitter because people can post updates on how they feel and post about how their country is holding up through a natural disaster .
Some people may find it as a concern to use social Media to report a natural disaster because anyone can make a fund page to help "donate money to the country " that doesn't mean that the money is exactly going to that needed country . For instance when Haiti had their earthquake people were setting up donations for perishable food , and clothing . How do we know that the People actually got these items ? When we go to social media it shows a symbol of weakness and vulnerability , this is showing that we can't go about our everyday lives without running to the internet for help . We are too dependent on others . Another reason is that anyone can go on Facebook, twitter , Instagram and make a post about a natural disaster happening in a country . The problem is how do we know which true and what's misleading? That's the issue anyone with a computer screen or cellular device can log in a post .
